RECERTIFICATION OF QUALITY SYSTEM OF THE PUBLIC ENTERPRISE AIRPORTS OF MONTENEGRO

2008-10-23 - AIRPORTS OF MONTENEGRO WELCOMED ITS MILLIONTH PASSENGER IN 2008

Today, Airports of Montenegro welcomed its millionth passenger in 2008. In 2007, the millionth passenger passed through Montenegrin airports on December 12 meaning two months later when compared to this year.

Airports of Montenegro estimates the year of 2008 will record traffic of 1.100.000 passengers handled at Podgorica and Tivat airports in total, meaning 8% growth when compared to passenger traffic in 2007. As for aircraft traffic, it is expected that 10.000 aircrafts will be handled, indicating 12% growth in comparison to the year of 2007.

Continuous traffic growth stems in large part from seamless upgrade of technical and technological capacities and human resources at Podgorica and Tivat airports.

Only in 2008, the following projects have been implemented:
Installation of Departure Control System (DCS) for e-ticketing and passenger-baggage reconciliation  Installation of perimeter fences at both airports (each fence length approx. 14 km)  Construction of new substation at Tivat airport  Installation of new Flight Information Display System at Tivat airport  Installation of new airfield lighting system (PAPI) at Tivat airport  New airport ground support equipment air starter, cargo loader transporter, ambulance car, toilet service vehicle, passenger baggage trolleys, x-ray machines, walkthrough metal detectors, ground power unit, baggage tractors, runway friction testers, apron sweeper  Various technological innovations at Podgorica and Tivat airports which enabled faster and better passenger flow in arrival and in departure  Activation of business lounges
Presently, the old passenger terminal at Podgorica airport is undergoing reconstruction and refurbishment. Value of this investment is over EUR 4 million. Additionally, aircraft apron at Tivat airport is undergoing extension. The apron will be extended for more than one third, thus enabling for receipt of much greater number of aircrafts compared to the existing capacity. Value of this investment is over EUR 2 million.

One of the most important activities of Airports of Montenegro currently is review of Master Plan of Montenegrin Airports Development by 2023. The first phase of Master Plan has been finalized successfully and all therein-defined parameters have been not only reached but also multiply exceeded. Review of Master Plan is defined in the very document but also comes as a result of very high investments to be implemented in Montenegro in the forthcoming years, particularly in tourism.

The Master Plan Review is to offer an answer to the question which airport capacities should be developed in future period with respective time schedule. The objective is timely construction of airport infrastructure as an important prerequisite for overall development of Montenegro.
